About This Journey

A comprehensive 3-day trek to the summit of Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa.

3-Day Mount Toubkal Round Trek Challenge yourself on a stunning 3-day adventure to the summit of Mount Toubkal — North Africa’s highest peak (4,167m). This circular trekking route takes you deep into the Atlas Mountains, through varied valleys and over dramatic mountain passes, before culminating in a sunrise ascent of Toubkal on the final day. Though short, this trek is considered one of the most demanding Toubkal routes due to elevation gains and terrain — but also one of the most scenic. You’ll experience a mix of rugged wilderness, remote waterfalls, panoramic ridge walks, and high-altitude refuge stays, all under the guidance of experienced local mountain guides. Note: This trek can be combined with a Sahara Desert tour for a complete mountain-to-dunes Moroccan experience.

Itinerary

Day 1:

Marrakech – Imlil – Azzaden Valley – Tamsoult Refuge Your journey begins with a morning transfer from Marrakech to the mountain village of Imlil (1,780m). From here, the trek leads west over the Tizi n'Mzik Pass (2,450m) and into the wild beauty of the Azzaden Valley. Along the way, pass the remote Azib n'Tamsoult shepherd huts and stop at the Ighouliden waterfalls. The day ends at the Tamsoult or Lipeney refuge (3,000m) where you'll spend the night in the heart of the mountains. Approx. 6 hours of trekking.

Day 2:

Tamsoult – Aguelzim Pass – Toubkal Refuge Today, you'll tackle a tough but rewarding climb over the Aguelzim Pass (3,650m). The views over the High Atlas range are nothing short of spectacular. After a well-earned lunch at altitude, descend to the Toubkal Refuge (Neltner Hut), your base for the night before summit day. Expect to share the refuge with other trekkers gearing up for the climb. Approx. 6–7 hours of trekking.

Day 3:

Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech Wake up early to begin your ascent of Mount Toubkal (4,167m). The climb is steep and steady, but the reward at the summit is immense: sweeping views of the Atlas Mountains and distant Sahara, bathed in the morning light. After a break at the top, descend past the refuge and continue down through the Ait Mizane Valley back to Imlil. From there, return to Marrakech by early evening. Approx. 8–9 hours of trekking.
