About Sidi Chamharouch Day Trek from Imlil

Walk from Imlil to Sidi Chamharouch on the classic Mount Toubkal trail, passing Aremd, mountain terraces and the river with a local guide.

Starting from our home village of Imlil, this guided day trek follows the first part of the classic Mount Toubkal route through Imlil Valley. We walk toward Aremd, the highest village above Imlil, then continue on the broad mule path used by local families, refuge suppliers and trekkers heading deeper into the mountains. Terraced fields and village houses gradually give way to a narrower, rockier valley, with the river below and High Atlas ridges rising on both sides. Our destination is Sidi Chamharouch, a well-known pilgrimage place built around a distinctive white-painted rock and small settlement. It is an important religious site, so your guide will explain how to visit respectfully and where photographs are appropriate. After a rest and lunch near Sidi Chamharouch, we return to Imlil along the same valley. This is a good choice if you want to experience the landscape and atmosphere of the Toubkal trail without climbing to the refuge or summit.

Itinerary

Imlil - Aremd - Imlil Valley - Sidi Chamharouch - Imlil

Meet your local guide in Imlil and set out on foot toward Aremd, the large Amazigh village overlooking the valley. The path passes walnut trees, stone houses and cultivated terraces before joining the main Mount Toubkal trail. After the route checkpoint, we continue steadily uphill through Imlil Valley. Beyond Aremd, the village landscape opens into a more rugged mountain corridor. The trail follows a well-used mule path, climbing above sections of the river and crossing rocky ground beneath the surrounding High Atlas slopes. Mules carrying supplies toward the Toubkal Refuge often share this route, and your guide chooses a comfortable pace with stops for water and views back down the valley. We reach Sidi Chamharouch, a small mountainside settlement and pilgrimage place recognized by its white-painted rock. Your guide will give you context about the site and help you respect local customs, as this is a living religious place rather than only a hiking landmark. We stop nearby for a traditional lunch and a rest before beginning the descent. The return follows the same Imlil Valley trail, offering wide views toward Aremd and Imlil that are easy to miss on the climb. We finish back in Imlil in the afternoon, where your driver will be waiting for the included return journey to your accommodation in Marrakech.
