About the 4-Day Ouirgane Valley Trek through Four High Atlas Valleys

Walk from green Ouirgane through four High Atlas valleys and a chain of Berber villages, finishing in Imlil after three nights in local homestays and gîtes.

Over four days, this trek crosses a changing landscape from the fertile Ouirgane Valley to the mountain villages above Imlil. You’ll pass orchards, cultivated slopes and adobe-and-stone homes, cross the passes of Tizi el Bour and Tizi n’Tamatert, and spend each night in a local homestay or family-run gîte. The route links the Ouirgane, Imlil, Oussertek and Imnane valleys, giving you time to see how village life and the land change from one side of the mountains to the other. The trek can also be walked in reverse, ending with a night in Ouirgane; transport back to Marrakech can be arranged from there.

4 Days Trek Itinerary

Day 1: Ouirgane – Tinzert – Imi Oughlad

Begin in the green Ouirgane Valley and walk uphill toward Tinzert. After a picnic lunch, continue across the mountain paths to Imi Oughlad, where you spend the night in a local homestay. The trail passes fertile fields and remote adobe-and-stone villages, with the High Atlas rising around the valley. Walking time: around 5 hours

Day 2: Imi Oughlad / Tagadirt n’Ait Ali – Tizi el Bour – Imska – Oussertek Valley – Tinoughar – Tidli – Agadir

Head north across the Imlil side of the mountains and climb to Tizi el Bour. Descend to Imska for lunch by the river, then climb again through rocky paths and juniper trees into the Oussertek Valley. Pass the Berber villages of Tinoughar and Tidli before reaching Agadir, where you stay overnight in a family-run gîte.

Day 3: Agadir – Gliz – Tizi n’Taratine – Amsakrou – Tiherhourine

Start among terraced fields of barley and corn, fruit trees and vegetable plots on the mountain slopes. Climb through Gliz and cross Tizi n’Taratine (about 2,200m), then descend toward the Imnane Valley. After a lunch break, continue to Tiherhourine for the night in a local gîte.

Day 4: Tiherhourine – Tizi n’Tamatert – Imlil

Climb gradually to Tizi n’Tamatert, with broad views over the valleys and an optional stop for freshly squeezed orange juice at the pass. Descend through the trees and village paths, stop for lunch in a shady place, then continue to Imlil to finish the trek. From Imlil, transfer back to Marrakech. The route can also be arranged in reverse, with the final night in Ouirgane and pickup there for Marrakech.
