Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil - Sidi Chamharouch - Toubkal Refuge

Your driver collects you from Marrakech and brings you to our office in Imlil, the main gateway to Toubkal National Park. After meeting your guide and checking equipment, the trek follows the Ait Mizane Valley through Aremd and toward Sidi Chamharouch, where lunch is usually served. The afternoon climb continues on a clear mountain trail toward the Toubkal Refuge at around 3,200m. This first day is important for pacing and hydration because you will sleep high before two summit days. Walking time: 5-6 hours

Day 2: Toubkal Refuge - Mount Toubkal Summit - Toubkal Refuge

After an early breakfast, begin the climb to Mount Toubkal, 4,167m, the highest summit in Morocco and North Africa. The ascent normally takes around 3 to 4 hours, depending on pace and conditions. From the summit, the views can stretch across the High Atlas and toward the Anti-Atlas on clear days. Descend carefully to the refuge for lunch and rest. The second night at the refuge gives the group time to recover and prepare for the more demanding Ouanoukrim stage the next morning. Walking time: 7-9 hours

Day 3: Toubkal Refuge - Ras Ouanoukrim - Timzguida - Imlil - Marrakech

Leave the refuge early and head toward the Ouanoukrim massif. With your guide, the route climbs toward Ras Ouanoukrim, 4,083m, then continues toward Timzguida Ouanoukrim, 4,089m, depending on weather, snow conditions, and the strength of the group. After completing the high route, descend back toward the refuge area for lunch or a rest stop before continuing down the Ait Mizane Valley to Imlil. Your driver will be waiting for the return journey to Marrakech. Walking time: 9-11 hours

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you climb Toubkal, Ras Ouanoukrim and Timzguida in 3 days?
Yes, this 3-day trek is designed to climb all three 4,000m summits: Mount Toubkal at 4,167m, Ras Ouanoukrim at 4,083m and Timzguida Ouanoukrim at 4,089m. The itinerary uses the Toubkal Refuge as a high base for two nights, with Toubkal climbed on day 2 and the Ouanoukrim summits climbed on day 3 before returning to Imlil and Marrakech.
How difficult is the 3-day Toubkal, Ras and Timzguida trek?
This is a challenging High Atlas trek for fit hikers with previous mountain walking experience. You will sleep at around 3,200m, climb above 4,000m on two consecutive days and cover steep rocky terrain, scree slopes and exposed high-mountain sections. It is more demanding than the standard 2-day or 3-day Toubkal trek.
Do I need technical climbing experience for Ras and Timzguida?
In normal summer conditions the route is usually a demanding guided hike rather than a technical climb, but Ras Ouanoukrim and Timzguida are more serious than the classic Toubkal summit route. A local mountain guide is important for route finding, pacing, weather decisions and safety on the Ouanoukrim ridge.
What is the best time for the Toubkal, Ras and Timzguida summits trek?
The best months are usually late spring, summer and early autumn, when the high routes are generally clearer of snow and the long summit days are more manageable. Winter and early spring can involve snow, ice and avalanche risk, so crampons, an ice axe, warm layers and suitable winter mountain experience may be required.
Where do we sleep during the 3-day three summits trek?
You spend both nights at the Toubkal Refuge near 3,200m. This makes the route efficient because the refuge sits below both Mount Toubkal and the Ouanoukrim massif, allowing early starts for the summit days and a direct descent back to Imlil after the final climb.
