About This Journey

A scenic 3-day circular Mount Toubkal trek from Marrakech via Azzaden Valley, Tamsoult Refuge, Ighouliden waterfalls, Aguelzim Pass, and the Toubkal summit.

This 3-day Mount Toubkal trek is the scenic alternative to the classic up-and-down route from Imlil. Instead of walking straight to the Toubkal Refuge on the first day, you cross toward the Azzaden Valley, visit the Ighouliden waterfalls area, sleep near Tamsoult or Lepiney Refuge, then climb over Aguelzim Pass to reach the Toubkal Refuge before summit day. It is a tougher route than the relaxed 3-day hike, but it rewards fit hikers with quieter valleys, big mountain views, varied trails, and a more complete High Atlas trekking experience.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil - Tizi n'Mzik - Azzaden Valley - Tamsoult Refuge

After morning pickup from Marrakech, drive to Imlil and meet your local mountain guide. The trek starts by climbing toward Tizi n'Mzik, one of the main passes between Imlil and the Azzaden side of Toubkal National Park. From the pass, the landscape opens toward the Azzaden Valley. Depending on conditions and timing, the route continues near the Ighouliden waterfalls area before reaching the Tamsoult or Lepiney refuge area for dinner and overnight stay. Walking time: 5-6 hours

Day 2: Tamsoult - Aguelzim Pass - Toubkal Refuge

This is the key mountain day of the circular route. After breakfast, climb steadily toward Aguelzim Pass, around 3,650m. The ascent is demanding, but the views over the High Atlas, Azzaden Valley, and Toubkal massif are among the best parts of the trek. After lunch or a rest stop near the pass, descend toward the Toubkal Refuge. You sleep close to the summit route, ready for the early climb the next morning. Walking time: 6-7 hours

Day 3: Toubkal Refuge - Mount Toubkal Summit - Imlil - Marrakech

Start before sunrise for Mount Toubkal summit, 4,167m. Your guide manages the pace on the rocky ascent, with short breaks when needed. From the summit, enjoy the wide High Atlas views before descending to the refuge. After lunch or a rest stop, continue down the Ait Mizane Valley through Sidi Chamharouch and back to Imlil. Your driver will meet you for the return transfer to Marrakech. Walking time: 8-10 hours
