About This Journey
A four-day Mount Toubkal trek from Marrakech with a Berber valleys acclimatization hike, two nights at the Toubkal Refuge and a guided climb to North Africa's highest summit.
Ease into the High Atlas with a guided hike through traditional villages and over Tizi n'Tamatert, with views across the Imlil and Imnane valleys. Then follow the classic trail from Imlil to the Toubkal Refuge, climb Mount Toubkal at 4,167 metres, and descend to Marrakech with your local mountain team. The extra acclimatization day adds time in the valleys before the high-altitude summit attempt. Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Tizi n’Tamatert acclimatization hike
Your driver collects you from your Marrakech accommodation at around 8:00 AM for the journey into the High Atlas. Check in to a local riad in Imlil, then meet your guide for an acclimatization walk through three or four traditional Berber villages. Climb to Tizi n’Tamatert Pass at about 2,300m and enjoy an outdoor lunch with views over the Imlil and Imnane valleys. Descend to Imlil for time to rest or explore the village before dinner. Overnight in a private room at the riad.
Day 2: Imlil – Aremd – Sidi Chamharouch – Toubkal Refuge
After breakfast, begin trekking at around 8:00 AM. Walk approximately 12km up the Ait Mizane Valley, passing Aremd village and the pilgrimage site of Sidi Chamharouch. Stop for lunch along the trail before continuing uphill to the Toubkal Refuge at about 3,200m. Settle into your dormitory bed, have dinner at the refuge and rest for the early start. Toilets and shower facilities are available at the refuge.
Day 3: Toubkal Refuge – Mount Toubkal summit – Toubkal Refuge
Wake at around 4:00 AM for breakfast and set off at approximately 5:00 AM with your guide. The ascent normally takes about four hours, depending on pace and mountain conditions. Reach the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4,167m, the highest point in North Africa, and take time to enjoy the views before descending carefully to the refuge. Have lunch, rest and spend a second night at the refuge.
Day 4: Toubkal Refuge – Imlil – Marrakech
After breakfast at around 7:00–8:00 AM, descend approximately 12km from the refuge to Imlil. Your return transport will meet you there for the journey back to your Marrakech accommodation. The finish can be adjusted if you would like extra time in Imlil. This trek can also be combined with a Sahara Desert tour before or after the Toubkal program.

Does the first day help us ease into the trek?
Yes. The guided village hike reaches about 2,300m before you return to sleep in Imlil. It gives you a relaxed introduction to the valleys and a gradual start before the walk to the refuge the next day.
How much walking is involved?
The route includes a village acclimatization hike on Day 1, about 12km from Imlil to the refuge on Day 2, a summit ascent and descent on Day 3, and about 12km back to Imlil on Day 4. Walking times depend on the group and conditions.
Where do we sleep during the trek?
You spend the first night in a private room at a riad in Imlil and the next two nights at the Toubkal Refuge.
What is the group price?
The price per person is €400 for 2 people, €350 for each person in a group of 3–5, and €300 per person for groups of 6 or more. The minimum group size is 2.
