Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil - Sidi Chamharouch - Toubkal Refuge

After pickup from Marrakech, drive into the High Atlas to Imlil and meet your local guide. The trek begins through the Ait Mizane Valley, passing Aremd and following the main trail toward Sidi Chamharouch, where lunch is usually served. In the afternoon, continue climbing toward the Toubkal Refuge at about 3,200m. The final section is steady and rocky, so your guide sets a pace that keeps the group comfortable before dinner and the refuge night. Walking time: 5-6 hours

Day 2: Toubkal Refuge - Mount Toubkal Summit - Aremd Village

Start early for the ascent of Mount Toubkal, 4,167m. The climb is demanding but straightforward in normal summer conditions, and most groups reach the summit after around 3 to 4 hours of steady walking. After summit photos and views across the High Atlas, descend to the refuge for lunch, then continue down toward Aremd village. Spending the night in Aremd gives the trek a softer ending: mountain views, local food, and a calm Berber guesthouse atmosphere after the summit effort. Walking time: 8-10 hours

Day 3: Aremd - Imlil Waterfalls - Imlil - Marrakech

After breakfast, enjoy a slower morning in the valley. Walk from Aremd toward Imlil, with time to visit the waterfalls or take a short scenic route depending on the season and group pace. After lunch or a final tea in Imlil, return by private transport to Marrakech. Walking time: 2-3 hours

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this 3-day Toubkal trek different from the refuge-only route?
This version includes one night at the Toubkal Refuge and one night in Aremd village. It is a good choice if you want the summit climb plus a more personal village experience after the mountain.
Is Aremd village worth adding to a Mount Toubkal trek?
Yes. Aremd gives you time to see daily life in the Imlil Valley, enjoy a guesthouse night, and finish the trek more calmly instead of descending from the summit and driving straight back to Marrakech.
Is this trek easier than the 2-day Toubkal trek?
Summit day is still challenging, but the overall journey feels less rushed because the final night is in Aremd and the last morning is shorter. It suits hikers who want more recovery time and local culture.
Where does the trek start and finish?
Transport starts and finishes in Marrakech. The walking starts from Imlil and finishes back in Imlil after the Aremd village stay and final valley walk.
