This 6-day adventure leads you through some of the most stunning landscapes in the High Atlas, blending remote mountain paths, Berber culture, and the thrill of summiting North Africa’s highest peak. Starting from Imlil, the journey crosses scenic passes, quiet valleys, and traditional villages before reaching the turquoise shores of Ifni Lake. From there, the route climbs toward the Toubkal Refuge and continues to the 4,167m summit for sweeping panoramic views. With a mix of camping and guesthouse stays, this trek offers a balanced, immersive experience of Morocco’s most iconic mountain region.
Itinerary
Day 1: Imlil – Tizi n’Tamatert – Imnane Valley – Tacheddirt
Start your trek from Imlil (1,740m), heading up toward the Tizi n’Tamatert Pass (2,279m). After a steady 2-hour climb, enjoy sweeping views before descending for 2–3 hours into the peaceful Imnane Valley. The day ends in the village of Tacheddirt (~2,400m), where you’ll settle into a gîte or camp for the night.
Trekking time: 4–6 hours
Day 2: Tacheddirt – Tizi n’Likemt – Azib Likemt (Camp)
Depart from Tacheddirt (2,300m) and make your way toward the high Tizi n’Likemt Pass (3,555m), offering wide panoramic views over remote valleys. Descend to the summer pastures of Azib Likemt (2,600m), where camp will be set for the night.
Trekking time: 6–7 hours
Day 3: Azib Likemt – Remote Valleys – Amsouzert (Guesthouse)
Today’s route leads you through isolated valleys and small Berber hamlets. Gradually descend to Amsouzert (1,740m), one of the most charming traditional villages in the High Atlas. Spend the night in a local guesthouse.
Trekking time: 6–7 hours
Day 4: Amsouzert – Ifni Lake (Camp)
Walk through scenic paths leading toward Ifni Lake (2,295m), the only large natural lake in the High Atlas. Its turquoise water, surrounded by steep peaks, offers one of the most beautiful campsites in the region. Overnight in camp beside the lake.
Trekking time: 4–5 hours
Day 5: Ifni Lake – Tizi n’Ouanoums – Toubkal Refuge
Start a steep ascent toward Tizi n’Ouanoums Pass (3,660m), a narrow and dramatic ridge. Continue the descent to the Toubkal Refuge (3,200m), where you’ll spend the night preparing for the next day’s summit attempt.
Trekking time: 6–7 hours
Day 6: Toubkal Refuge – Toubkal Summit – Imlil – Marrakech
Begin the climb early to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa. From the top, enjoy sweeping 360-degree views across the Atlas Mountains and the distant Sahara. Descend back through the refuge and continue to Imlil (1,740m), where the trek ends. A private transfer returns you to Marrakech.
